Course Overview Description
This program is intended for Board Certified Otolaryngologists and Residents interested in an otologic surgery update through a series of lectures and lab dissection sessions using temporal bone specimens. International faculty will provide live surgery broadcasts and lectures will be complemented by closely mentored, hands-on lab sessions offering opportunities for dynamic interaction with faculty. Each participant will have access to a state-of-the-art 16-station lab equipped with a microscope with a flat panel monitor and the latest endoscopic and microdissection tools.
Learning Objectives
After attending this program, participants will be able to:
- Set up an endoscopic ear surgery operating room, including orientation of the OR table, room positioning of the staff and anesthesia and the surgical back table of instruments.
- Perform endoscopic placement of a tympanoplasty graft and ossiculoplasty prosthesis
- Discuss the appropriate indications for endoscopic tympanoplasty and ossiculoplasty
- Compare and contrast the microscopic vs endoscopic approach for stapes surgery
- List the particular risks of EES and contrast them to microscopic surgery
- Describe the indications for purely EES management of cholesteatoma and when to utilize hybrid approach
- Describe the appropriate indication for a transpromontorial approach to the internal auditory canal in management of a small vestibular schwannoma
