Each year, AOA chapters are encouraged to select residents/fellows and faculty for membership. These individuals must show excellence in scholarship, high professionalism, leadership, and gifted teaching.
This year, the newly inducted students in the CWRU chapter of AOA selected Marni Turell, MD, as one of four faculty inductees. Dr. Turell is a general pediatrician with Lake Health, and she hosts many medical students each year as part of their core pediatrics clerkship. Her student presenter at the AOA banquet noted, “I met Dr. Turell at the beginning of my pediatrics clerkship. It was my first exposure to peds. She welcomed me to her clinic, explaining not only the flow of the day but how I could help. I was immediately put at ease. From the very beginning she treated me as part of her team, which included high expectations for involvement and self-study. From her actions I could see she also held herself to a very high standard. In short, she modeled the skills I want to strive for and asked that I do the same. This is a powerful combination in any teacher and made the week I spent at her clinic one of my most memorable. I am thankful for the opportunity to have had her as a mentor.”
