Introducing Salernitana, a Newsletter of UH Physician Achievement

By Cliff Megerian, MD, President, UH Physician Network and System Institutes

UH Clinical Update - September 2018

All of us, together, make University Hospitals not only a successful clinical enterprise that provides outstanding care, but also a world-class center for research, teaching and scholarly achievement.

Financial pressure on academic medical centers is increasing, but we continue to believe in our academic mission – to teach and to discover – and in all the physicians here at UH who deliver on that pledge. There is great appreciation for our enormously talented faculty and staff.

We also know that being recognized for one’s academic achievement is an extremely important part of finding value in our work. We have already taken the important step of appointing Dr. Marjorie Greenfield as our Career Academic Advancement Officer. Her role is to help our faculty members achieve the academic recognition they deserve, through promotion and tenure.

Now we introduce Salernitana, a newsletter that will celebrate faculty-physician achievement. The name comes from the first medical school, which opened in Italy in the 13th century. It was renowned for celebrating the achievements of its faculty, both men and women.

Our Salernitana will share news about key awards (including teaching and patient care awards), invited professorships, promotions and tenure, new grants, major publications, appointments to national committees, and outstanding community service among our distinguished clinicians.

The overall goals of Salernitana include not only recognition for the academic value you bring to UH, but also to learn from each other about our collective accomplishments, and to build a greater sense of community.

You have told us that you to know about your colleagues’ specific accomplishments, and for them to know about yours.

We have much to be proud of, and the success of Salernitana depends upon your input.

Please send us your news about your accomplishments through this link located on the UH Digital Work Place (access for UH physicians only). Simply click on New Item, enter your achievement information, and click Save.  Your news item will then go directly to Goutham Rao, MD, UH Clinician Experience and Well-Being Officer, who is the editor of Salernitana. After review, he or another member of the editorial team may contact you for additional information.

We have an extraordinary hospital system that continues to grow and evolve. Your work is one of the things we build on – and we want to shine more light on you as we do.
