UH Rainbow Pediatric Pulmonologist Kristie Ross, MD, MS, was recently named Division Chief of Pediatric Pulmonology. 

Dr. Benjamin Gaston served as chief for six years.   Under Dr. Gaston’s leadership, the division of pediatric pulmonology achieved remarkable growth in basic and translational research, recruited several new PhD and MD faculty, established the first accredited Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia Center in Ohio, and collaborated with Pediatric Gastroenterology Otolaryngology to establish the highly successful Aerodigestive program.  Dr. Gaston stepped down as Chief to focus on research endeavors for UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Dr. Ross received her medical degree from the University of Virginia, and completed residency training in pediatrics and fellowships in Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine at UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital/Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.  She also completed a master’s degree in Clinical Research at the School of Medicine.

She has been serving as Clinical Director for the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology, Allergy/Immunology and Sleep Medicine since 2014 and as the Director of the Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship Program since 2013.  She is the physician lead for a Pediatric Asthma High Reliability Medicine project, and serves on the UHMG President’s Advisory Council.   She is also active in leadership roles outside the organization, serving as Vice President of the Pediatric Pulmonology Training Directors Association, as a member of several American Thoracic Society Committees, as a member of the American Board of Pediatrics Pediatric Pulmonology sub-board, and on the Pediatric Pulmonology subcommittee for U.S. News & World Report.

Dr. Ross’s research interests include severe pediatric asthma, sleep apnea and clinical trials, and she participates in several NIH-funded asthma and sleep clinical trial networks.  She has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed original research manuscripts and a number of commentaries, reviews and editorials, and been an invited speaker at the American Thoracic Society International Meeting and the European Respiratory Society Meeting.
