UH Rainbow ranks in all 10 pediatric specialties with five in top 20

CLEVELAND, Ohio – University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital (UH Rainbow) once again earned high recognition in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals annual rankings. UH Rainbow is ranked No. 4 in neonatology, and among the nation’s 20 best children’s hospitals in pulmonology, cancer, orthopaedics and urology.

In total, UH Rainbow ranks among the nation’s top 50 children’s hospitals in all 10 medical and surgical specialties including neonatology (#4), pulmonology (#8), cancer (#17), orthopaedics (#18), urology (#19), nephrology (#21), diabetes & endocrinology (#22), neurology & neurosurgery (#27), GI (#31), and heart & heart surgery (#50).

UH Rainbow has long been regarded as an international leader in the treatment of critically ill and extremely low birth-weight babies since pioneering neonatology in the 60s, culminating in opening one of the nation’s first family-centered NICUs with space for parents to stay with their baby, UH Rainbow’s Quentin & Elisabeth Alexander Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Ranking among America’s Best Children’s Hospitals every year since 1991 UH Rainbow continues its legacy of innovation in pediatric care with the opening of the Angie Fowler Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Institute in conjunction with UH Seidman Cancer Center, providing the latest medical advancements in treatment for cancer and blood disorders in young patients while understanding the special needs of teens. UH has also launched a multi-year strategy with social enterprise Health Leads to improve patient health by addressing social needs. The initial phase of the collaboration includes in-clinic social needs services in the pediatric and women’s health clinics at UH Rainbow and UH MacDonald Women’s Hospital.

U.S. News & World Report surveyed 183 facilities for the 2016-17 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings giving equal weight to structure, process, and outcomes. The rankings help parents determine where to get the best medical care for their children and highlight the top 50 U.S. pediatric facilities in 10 specialties, from cancer to urology.

The U.S. News Best Children’s Hospitals rankings rely on clinical data and on an annual survey of pediatric specialists.
