University Hospitals experts in sports concussion are headlining the Fifth Annual Concussion Symposium, taking place in Cleveland this week. The goal of the symposium is to provide state-of-the-art research and clinical information about the science and practice of sports concussion and concussion management from a multidisciplinary and internationally-recognized faculty.
Topics to be addressed include:
- The need for specialty care
- Sport safety
- Nutraceuticals and nutrition
- Review of international consensus guidelines
- Provision of services in and outreach to culturally diverse communities
- Community education
- Management guidelines
- Ethical issues in neuropsychological testing
- Protective equipment
- Pathophysiology
- A review of the chronic traumatic encephalopathy literature
The symposium runs from April 27 through April 29. UH sports concussion experts Christopher Bailey, PhD; Susannah M. Briskin, MD; Sean A. Cupp, MD; and James E. Voos, MD, are scheduled to speak.
