Joseph F. Sabik III, MD, Chairman of the Department of Surgery at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and Vice President of Surgical Operations and Surgeon-in-Chief at UH, is co-author of a new editorial in The New England Journal of Medicine examining the use of cardiopulmonary bypass in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Titled “Changing the Discussion about On-Pump versus Off-Pump CABG,” the article advocates for shifting the debate from which approach is “better,” to identifying which patients benefit from which procedure.
