Target Audience
This program is intended for a community hospital audience including physicians, athletic trainers, and other members of the health care team that provide care to patients who have sustained concussions. Most presentations will target primary care and sports medicine physicians in clinical practice, though athletic trainers, other healthcare providers that work with patients that have sustained a concussion, office managers and administrators may also benefit from awareness and discussion of clinical initiatives and quality management issues.
Learning Objectives
After participating in this activity participants will be able to:
- Discover the history and aims of the Concussion Management services and the Concussion Specialist Program at University Hospitals
- Describe concussion signs, symptoms, pathophysiology, expected outcomes following concussion, and the guidelines for concussion specialist appointments.
- Identify signs and symptoms that may indicate a more severe traumatic brain injury or other neurological event that requires more urgent management.
- Describe concussion rehabilitation and vestibular therapy as well as identify the patients that might benefit from rehabilitation and vestibular interventions.
